The Insight Meditation Society (IMS) is one of the premier meditation retreat centers in the Western world. Founded in 1975 by Sharon Salzberg, Jack Kornfield, and Joseph Goldstein in a former Catholic seminary in Barre, Massachusetts, IMS offers silent vipassana meditation retreats ranging from weekends to three months. The Retreat Center hosts intensive meditation practice, while the Forest Refuge offers a self-retreat facility for experienced practitioners.
