About

Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, located in the Ventana Wilderness of the Los Padres National Forest, is the first Zen monastery established outside Asia. Founded by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi in 1967, it is a practice place of the San Francisco Zen Center. During winter practice periods, it functions as a monastic training center. In summer, it opens as a guest retreat with natural hot springs. It is accessible only by a winding mountain road.
