Krishna Das, born Jeffrey Kagel, is a vocalist and the best-known Western practitioner of kirtan, the Hindu devotional chanting tradition. He traveled to India in 1970 and became a devotee of Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaj-ji), the same guru as Ram Dass. His chanting albums, including 'Live on Earth,' have popularized kirtan in the West. He was nominated for a Grammy Award and has been called the 'chant master of American yoga.' He leads kirtan events and retreats worldwide.
