Lama Surya Das (born Jeffrey Miller) is one of the foremost Western Buddhist meditation teachers and scholars, and a leading spokesperson for the emerging American Buddhism. He has spent over forty years studying Zen, Vipassana, yoga, and Tibetan Buddhism with many of the great masters of Asia, including Kalu Rinpoche, the Sixteenth Karmapa, and Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche, from whom he received the Dzogchen lineage transmission. He is the founder of the Dzogchen Center and the author of 'Awakening the Buddha Within.' His teaching emphasizes Dzogchen, the natural great perfection, as a direct path to awakening accessible to modern Western students.
