Ram Dass (1931–2019), born Richard Alpert, was an American spiritual teacher and author. A former Harvard psychology professor alongside Timothy Leary, he traveled to India in 1967 where he met his guru Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaj-ji). His 1971 book 'Be Here Now' became a seminal text of the spiritual counterculture and has sold over two million copies. He co-founded the Seva Foundation and the Love Serve Remember Foundation. His teachings blended Hindu devotional practice with Western psychology and psychedelic experience.
